FAQ's High Peak Dog Services
  1. Where are your dog training services based?

We run all of our dog training services in Buxton, Derbyshire.

2. What should I do if my dog is aggressive towards people or other animals?

If your dog is showing aggressive behaviours such as growling, barking, snapping or biting, it is essential that you contact a professional immediately.

We can help you to better manage the behavioural problem effectively and get your dogs behaviour back under control.

3. How can I stop my dog from barking at other dogs on walks?

If your dog is barking on walks, prevention can be better than cure.

First, stop taking them to places where they can react to their triggers because practice makes permanent!

Next step is to book in with a professional to help you to identify why they’re barking and start to work them around distractions again, without the barking .

4. How do I teach my dog to walk nicely on a leash?

Usually, teaching your dog to walk nicely on the lead is an easy thing to train them.

However, if you’ve been working on their lead work for some time, there could be an underlying emotion driving that pulling such as anxiety or frustration.

Obedience training is different to behavioural training and you’ll need to get a full assessment done for your dog to identify the cause of the lead pulling.

5. What are some common mistakes to avoid during dog training?

Some of the most common mistakes I see with clients when dog training are:

1: Rushing. It’s natural for people to want to reach their end goal as fast as possible, but when you rush a dogs training, it almost always fails and falls apart.

2: Not listening properly. It can be a lot to handle when you’ve got a reactive dog and you’re trying to control them and listen to instructions, but be sure to listen properly to what instructions you’re being given and if you’re not sure of something, ask us to repeat it again.

3: Being too boring: The pressures of society can turn us into boring beings sometimes! Remember to have fun with your dog and have your energy in tune with the activity.

8. What payment methods do you accept?

All payments for our dog training services are taken via an online payment system, called Stripe.

9. What is your return and refund policy?

When you book a service with us, we have a no refund policy in place.

You can amend your session date and time if on a 1:1 or you can transfer your booking to someone else. Just let us know who is taking your place.

10. Should I book a one to one dog training session or will my dog work well in a training class?

When deciding whether to book a 1:1 or put your dog into a training class, think about how well your dog copes around other dogs at different distances.

If your dog sees a dog at any distance and starts barking, it’s probably best to book a 1:1 first

If you can walk behind or alongside another dog or they can see them but not react until they get closer, then you’ll probably be ok in a class.
